7-man is saved! - Letter from Chuck Hendsch

The following is a letter we received from Chuck earlier this morning. We have posted the message in its entirety.

“HB is back. 7-man is saved. The previous NPPL Professional Teams are taking matters into their own hands by forming a new 7-man national circuit. The first confirmed event of this new series will be held at the sacred Huntington Beach venue April 2 – 5, 2009. More details will be released in the days to come. Until then, be happy. Huntington Beach is back! Registration for the USPL’s Surf City Open in HB will start February 16th, 2009. Camielle let us know that the league is planning to cap the registration at 130 teams. Those of us planning to compete better start saving because this event will definitely fill up fast!

Division 1 7-man entry $2350
Division 2 7-man entry $2,150
Division 3 7-man entry $1,850
Division 3 5-man entry $1,100

Several of you are going to be asking yourselves how the divisions are going to play out. With the NPPL player records held hostage by the bankruptcy court and the APPA records only applying to those that have competed in the PSP, the fact is..no one really knows.

However, in an effort to make the best of the situation and let us play paintball on the beach, the USPL has released the 2009 classifications;

A professional player is someone who is listed on a 2009 USPL Pro roster or 2009 NXL roster. Anyone who played professional in 2008 but is not on a 2009 pro roster (USPL or NXL) is classified as Semi Pro.

• D1 may have unlimited D1 players, unlimited SP players and up to 2 Pro players
• D2 may have all D2 players, up to two D1 players, no SP or Pro players
• D3 may have only D3 players
• 5 man players cannot have any NPPL experience (this classifies them as D3 5-man) with the exception of up to one D3 7-man player.

From the looks of these new standards, any PRO player that is not rostered pro in 2009 was magically reclassified to D1. It should be noted that Lane Wright is currently debating the SEMI PRO classification over at the PSP camp (to be, or not to be; more on this later) and we may end up with a huge influx of over qualified division 1 athletes. From the initial look of things, this move definitely simplifies the divisions and will help to augment the weak D1 bracket.

naja, das M ist eine "richtige" Deckung. das "U" wurde nur diesmal zusammen gebastelt. es gab ne' abstimmung zu drei verschiedenen layouts, was ich recht nett fand. mal gucken ob sie das auch für die nächsten events machen.

It's Almost Time...

Get ready for the 2009 US Paintball League debut on the beach next to the pier in Huntington Beach, CA April 3 - 5, 2009. Here's what you can expect...


The Good:

* New staging layout where teams stage at their field. Watch every game between your games from your very own team tent.

* The new event location makes games visible from the pier and the deck off of Sparks

* 200 ft. wide Grandstands on Center Court topped off with a massive VIP deck brought to you by the Pro Teams (tickets available at the event).

* Sunshine - forecast is 74 degrees with sunny skies

* Crowds - Just in time for Spring Break, the beach will be flooded with people checking out the games and tradeshow.

* Player Parties - The Pros have planned something special each night for all the teams and sponsors to enjoy (age restrictions may apply)

* Pro/Am - Each 7man team gets to choose one Pro Player to spend an hour on Thursday going over game plans and to help support their team on Saturday

* Support from key industry figures - President of the Adrenaline Force Tournament Series, Randy Bocelli, will be running the 5man portion of the event, industry sweetheart Stephanie Gray (2007 NPPL/XPSL Director of Membership Services) will be running registration along with Chris Raehl of APPA, Gary Baum will be liaising with the Media, and the "Queen of Pump" Kristen Kleist will be running Sunday's Pump tournament. All of the above are coming on board to support the US Paintball League and make sure this event is successful and enjoyed by all.

* Competition - Over 100 teams have signed up for this event from all over the World. They will be competing for the event title, points in their Eastern or Western Conference and overall points for the National Series. Not to mention
the cash, trophy or bragging rights of course...



The Bad: All good things must come to an end

* Team Registration closes this week! March 25, 2009 is the final day to get your team registered and paid in full.

* The event ends Sunday April 5, 2009 and everyone will need to return to work and school. Well, for a few weeks anyway until the DC Challenge kicks off in May!!

NPPL.com on the move?


The former home of the National 7-man Professional Paintball league appears to have been replaced by a Cable Cam template. A quick google search reveals that Cable Cam is an aerial camera operator for the NBA and NHL. Apparently the company WinnerComm (CableCam’s parent company?) is somehow affiliated with the new site. Feel free to direct your browser to npplbeta.winnercomm.com. A bit of digging on the site reveals that all the 2008 scores, sponsors, about the league, videos and photographs no longer reside on the NPPL.com server. Feel free to speculate in the comments below as to what you imagine is taking place.
